What Is Nico Evaluates?





Nico Evaluates is a show that delves into the world of different Mega Man games from fan made all the way up to official titles and criticizes them in an easily digestible format.


Nico Evaluates teaches developers of good development habits, showcases common mistakes and gives you an idea of what makes the perfect game.


Nico has over 27 years of experience in Mega Man games and 7 years in doing the No Miss challenge on his show Case: Mega Man. Nico is also the Managing Director of Snupster, a YouTube channel that specializes in racing Mega Man games with deranged rules. Nico is also a Quality Assurance Tester, having tested Mega Man: Unlimited and the upcoming Mega Man: Rock ‘n Roll.




Below you’ll find the games that have been evaluated on the show in order: From best to worst. You’ll only find summaries here, so click a title of a game to watch the whole series. Keep coming back after each new game has been evaluated to find out where it lands. If a game is missing from the list, it means it has not yet been evaluated.

The rating used to measure different titles against each other varies a bit from your typical system. Nico Evaluates uses something you would call a “mountain system” with different slope heights. It’s easy to be mediocre and it takes quite a lot of effort to break through certain rating barricades. Mega Man is a franchise that is very specific in how its supposed to work, and even small negative deviations can alter the score immensely. However, that doesn’t mean games with personality, or games that differ from the norm are automatically poor. Every game is judged as an individual. Games can lose stars for many reasons: Controls, physics, mechanics, gameplay, lack of teaching elements, glitches and even if the game just isn’t memorable or does a poor job of representing Mega Man.


It doesn’t take much pushing to swerve inside (0) – (1). When moving up to (2), it should be considered as a solid checkpoint, but with challenges to overcome.


At (3), the situation is quite similar: The rating gets more steady and doesn’t fluctuate as easily. Running up to (4) and (5), small aspects can move a title from side to side.


However, climbing up to (6) from (5) is a real endeavor since it differentiates an uninspired title to something that can be a bit more worth your while. (7) – (8) swerve again, but to ascend up to (9), the title has to overcome spectacular accomplishments.


(10) is a perfect game, and it most likely doesn’t exist.
